Nexans Türkiye Elevates Fire Safety Standards Across Its Cable Portfolio

Feb 10, 2026

Nexans Türkiye has adopted CPR Cca-class cables - offering higher fire safety performance - as its new standard. The high fire-performance Cca-class fire safety cables developed at its R&D centers in Denizli and Tuzla help minimize the risk of injury and property loss by slowing the spread of fire, while limiting the formation of toxic smoke to facilitate safer evacuation.

In densely populated such as hospitals, schools, shopping malls, hotels, metro stations, and tunnels—where evacuation is difficult—or in environments like data centers and manufacturing facilities where operational continuity is critical, the performance of cables during a fire has a direct impact on life safety and the risk of fire spreading.

Research by European cable associations shows that cables with low smoke emission and low toxicity extend evacuation time during fires, improve visibility, and significantly enhance intervention conditions for firefighting teams. Nexans minimizes toxic emission risks in such environments by using halogen-free, high-performance materials. Tested in accordance with the EN 50399 standard, the new high fire-performance CPR Cca-class cables make a difference across four key safety pillars:

1. Flame Spread: CPR Cca-class cables are designed to limit the rapid progression of flames along the cable route during a fire. In buildings where electrical installations play a critical role in fire behavior, Cca-class cables help slow the spread of fire.

2. Heat Release: The release of heat, which accelerates the ignition of surrounding construction materials during a fire, is minimized in Cca-class cables.

3. Smoke Production: A significant number of fire-related fatalities are caused by dense smoke. Cca-class cables with low smoke density help maintain breathable air and visibility in escape routes.

4. Reduction of Acidic and Toxic Gases: Thanks to their halogen-free composition, Cca-class cables minimize the release of corrosive and toxic gases during a fire, facilitating both evacuation and firefighting operations.

We Have Decided to Upgrade All Our CPR Eca-Class Cables to CPR Cca Level”

Atilla Kurtiş, Nexans Middle East and Africa Regional Director, emphasized the vital importance of fire safety with the following statement:

"Every second counts during a fire. Low smoke and low toxicity play a critical role in enabling the safe evacuation of people. At Nexans Turkey, we’ve gone beyond minimum requirements and made the decision to upgrade all our CPR Eca-class fire safety cables to the higher CPR Cca level. According to data from the Istanbul Fire Department, a significant portion of fires each year is caused by electrical faults or installation-related issues. This clearly highlights the strategic importance of the products used in electrical infrastructure when it comes to fire safety. Our Cca-class cables not only prevent flame propagation, but also minimize smoke density and acidic gas emissions—providing the ‘golden minutes’ needed for safe evacuation."

CPR: More Than a Regulation—A Commitment to Safety

Atilla Kurtiş emphasized that today’s buildings are becoming taller and more reliant on electrical systems, increasing the overall fire risk profile. In this context, the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) provides a critical framework of reference. He stated that CPR is not merely a matter of compliance, but one of the most powerful tools designed to protect people, assets, and critical infrastructure:

“At Nexans Turkey, we’ve been working for a long time to make this framework more understandable and applicable for both our customers and industry stakeholders. Because for us, this transition is more than a regulatory requirement—it is a strategic responsibility that helps advance the safety standards of modern life.”

Conclusion: A Strong Contribution to Turkeys Fire Resilience

Nexans’ Cca-class fire safety cables help reduce the risk of loss of life and property by slowing down the spread of fire, and they contribute to safer evacuation by minimizing the formation of toxic smoke and preserving visibility and breathing conditions. With its innovative cable solutions, Nexans Turkey continues to lead in fire safety R&D and remains committed to building safer electrical infrastructure in Turkey through its transition from CPR Eca to CPR Cca classification.
