Paris, November 13, 2001 � Nexans (Paris: NEX.PA), the worldwide leader in the cable industry, has been awarded a contract to supply 17 Km of Telecom Mud and Fire resistant cable (FRC-2) to Hyundai Heavy Industries, in Ulsan, Korea.
Deriving from a family of Underwater Repeaterless Cables (URC-1), Nexans has used a cost effective steel tube design, allowing the FRC-1 (fire resistant only) and the FRC-2 to offer the best protection topside.
Originally named the "Topside Cable", FRC-2 offers a resistance to fire and mud and is creating interest not only in the oil & gas industry but in a host of industries keen to benefit from the integration of Nexans� steel tube technology, such as railways, underground railways, mining and potentially could be used for road tunnels and some defence applications.

The Mud and Fire Resistant Cable is manufactured at the Nexans Norway plant in Rognan.
